Officer fires shots at man with Lego gun

DUVALL, Wash. — A King County deputy fired shots at a man who had what appeared to be a gun, but the “gun” was actually made of Legos.

Police were called to Northeast Woodinville-Duvall Road east of Northeast Mink Road near Duvall after receiving a report of a man waving a gun at cars, Deputy William Akers said.

When a deputy arrived around 11:20 a.m., she encountered a man who ignored her commands and then pulled out what appeared to be a black handgun from his waistband and raised it into the air.

The deputy fired several shots and the man dropped to the ground.

The man, who was not hurt, was taken into custody.

Akers said a preliminary investigation indicated that the gun was a toy replica made of Legos and the man is a resident of a nearby group home for developmentally disabled adults.

Traffic on Woodinville-Duvall Road is being alternated while police investigate the incident.

"We are grateful no one was injured in this dangerous situation," said King County Sheriff Steve Strachan.
