MONROE, Wash. — A Monroe horse rescue is struggling to recover after a devastating barn fire killed four horses in the 13400 block of Chain Lake Road.
The owner of Paint’d Horse Stables says the flames destroyed more than $150,000 in property and thought they'd have to shut down.

But the community rallying and showing support is giving them new hope.
The owner of the rescue, Amanda Cable, said the rescue was between insurance policies, and that their renewal process got delayed in the recent snowstorms. Then the fire erupted.
Four horses died but the rescue is still caring for another 15 in another barn -- and say the only thing keeping them going, is your help.
“It was massive,” said Brooke Corbin, Cable’s daughter who helps out with the rescue.
“I got woke up just by screaming, and you could hear the flames, you could hear the crackling,” Cable said.
Paint’d Horse Stables is an equine rescue and place that teaches people how to ride. Their rescues come are wild horses from Yakima that haven’t been adopted in time, and would otherwise be sent to slaughter.
The rescue said they just got two tons of new hay, when around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, something sparked a fire in their hay room.
“It spread so quick,” Cable said.
The fire ended up torching the entire barn -- which housed six horses, and served as their arena.
“They’re my kids,” Cable said. “I just ran down here, I had to get my horses out. Figure out how to get the horses out. There was a police officer here telling 'no, you're not going in there,'” she said.
Firefighters were able to let out and save two horses, but the other four died in the flames.
“The day this happened I just - it was hopeless. Like this will never be again,” Cable said.
Their family is still struggling and looking for answers.
“It’s so uncomfortable not knowing what happened, what caused it, or what we can do to prevent it from happening at the other ones (barns) or anything, you know?” Corbin said.
But since the fire, people wanting to help, started stepping up -- bringing by donations in droves.
“Grain, brushes, tack,” Corbin said “It's been wonderful,” she said.
“People have been coming by every day, it's what's kept me going. It's what's kept me going and only what's kept me going,” Cable said.
Paint'd Horse also has a donation page up on Facebook, and says once fire crews release the scene - they'll also need help clearing out the rubble.
