Mount Vernon man wins lottery, during pursuit of milk and cookies

Wes LaRocque of Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon man won $70,000 from a Washington lottery ticket -- during a pursuit of milk and cookies.

The man, Wes LaRoque, had purchased the ticket from The Little Mountain Gas and Grocery, when he went to purchase milk to accompany an earlier cookie purchase.

“Well, I bought the ticket on a total whim. I had come home from work and brought my wife a chocolate chip cookie, and it turns out we didn’t have any milk. Who can eat a cookie without milk?” said LaRocque. “So I went back to the store, and decided to pick up a ticket!”

Wes and his wife say they may use the money to take the honeymoon to Hawaii they never had.

According to the release, The Little Mountain Gas and Grocery, which sold the winning 'Washington's Lottery Hit 5' ticket will also receive a $700 selling bonus!
