‘Mama Kearse' talks about son's big catch

"For me, he's my baby!"

Angelika Kearse's "baby" is Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, whose spectacular catch salvaged an NFC Championship Game that seemed in doubt to many.

But never, she insists, did it seem in doubt to her.

"I knew they were going to win!" she said.

She says she has the power of three on her side.

"Jermaine was born on the sixth of February," she explained.  "He wears No. 15. It's a three number."

Still, even she -- her English accented by her native German -- admits to a bit of nail biting until her Lakewood native son came down with the game-winning football.

"We were just jumping up and down and I was so happy for him," she said. "Because I'm like 'this is exactly what I have been telling you. Just don't let them get to you. Nobody is perfect.'"

And what did she think when her son tossed the ball into the stands?

"I think that was a release," she said. "And just say 'here you go, now how you like me now,' boom, gone."

And she has no doubt that he and the Seahawks proved they can win a second Super Bowl in a row.

"Come on," said Kearse. "Who can win a game in that short period of time? Only that (Seahawks) team."

Then she said this about New England, their Super Bowl opponent.

"Those Patriots can play three quarters and be all pretty. Watch out on the fourth quarter because that's when they're going to beat them," she said, laughing. And then a knee, knee a boo-boo to the Patriots -- and their fans!"
