Woodland Park Zoo to reopen July 1 with safety measures in place

SEATTLE — The Woodland Park Zoo will reopen to the public on July 1 after being temporarily closed since March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for the reopening will go on sale on Monday at 10 a.m.

Officials said the ticket purchases will be for specific entrance times, to help limit the number of people inside the zoo.

Tickets will be available 30 days in advance of a visit date.

A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase in person at the zoo, but officials are strongly recommending people purchase them online to avoid extended wait times.

If tickets are sold out, people who chose to buy tickets in person will have to purchase for a future date.

Officials said most exhibits are open, but some areas are closed for safety including:

Family Farm, Zoomazium, Tropical Rain Forest building, Historic Carousel, Willawong Station, Bug World, Molbak’s Butterfly Garden, Temperate Wetlands Marsh and Conservation Aviary, all playgrounds, Mother’s/Nursing room, vending machines, drinking fountains, water refilling stations, face painting and kiosks.

Here are some other changes zoo officials said to keep in mind when planning your next visit:

• Timed ticket entry for social distancing
• Facial coverings required for all guests (ages 2+) and staff
• Entry only through West Entrance. The South Entrance is closed for entry.
• All main exits are open
• Hand sanitization stations widely available
• Increased sanitization and cleaning
• One-way path to outdoor exhibits
• Indoor buildings closed and programs temporarily unavailable
• No-touch parking payments
• Plexiglass or glass dividers at transaction points
• Complyiance with all Washington state and King County health guidelines
