Woman found dead outside crashed car after shooting on Tacoma waterfront

TACOMA, Wash. — A woman was found dead outside a crashed car after a shooting on Tacoma’s waterfront.

Tacoma police were called to the 4300 block of Ruston Way at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting.

“They found a vehicle on the north side of the road crashed into a pole and an unresponsive female on the ground,” Wendy Haddow with the Tacoma Police Department said.

Tacoma Fire Department medics tried to save the 29-year-old woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, family confirmed with KIRO 7 the identity of the victim. The woman is Mariela Vargas-Brown.

“I want justice for my daughter,” her mother told reporter Kevin Ko.

So far, no information has been released about a suspect.

The shooting is Tacoma’s eighth homicide this year.
