Woman found dead near Auburn Golf Course

KENT, Wash. — A woman is dead after a shooting in unincorporated King County near Auburn and Kent.

The King County Sheriff’s Office says at 12:53 a.m., the Valley Communications Center received a report of a possible shooting at South 277th Street and Green River Road South.

The caller said that his girlfriend had been shot. When deputies arrived, they found a woman dead.

Detectives were seen photographing an area that’s right next to an encampment.

Kayleena Kohl says she’s been living out of her RV off Green River Road for about a year now.

She says there’s always a lot of activity, and often hears gunfire.

“Gunshots every night, but nothing like this. It’s more people just kind of screwing around and having fun, you know,” said Kohl.

Kohl stood behind the crime tape and watched as detectives gathered evidence.

“It could have been me. I live alone and it’s dangerous out here for a female alone, that’s for sure, so yeah, that’s all that’s going through my head, that it could have been me,” said Kohl.

Kohl says there are a lot of people living in the woods in the section of unincorporated King County.

“Just in this part, about 20 to 50 people… Down there, there’s hundreds, hundreds of people down there,” said Kohl.

As the news spread, Kohl says several people have been checking in with her.

“What’s going on? Is everybody OK? It’s not you?” said Kohl.

Detectives still don’t know who shot the woman or why.

They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
