Woman, 2 children die in Whidbey Island house fire

WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. — The Island County Sheriff’s Office says a woman and her two young children were killed in a fire at a home on Whidbey Island Sunday.

Fire personnel and deputies were called to the fire at a home in the 4000 block of DeGraff Road at 4:36 p.m.

Detectives and the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab as well as personnel from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue and the Oak Harbor Fire Department were processing the scene to determine cause and origin of the fire when the bodies were discovered.

On Monday afternoon, the Island County Sheriff’s Office said a 25-year-old woman and her two children, ages 3 and 5 years old, had died in the fire.

The children’s father was not home when the fire broke out but arrived while the fire crews were extinguishing the fire. He is cooperating with the investigation.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and authorities say the investigation is the early stages.
