WASHINGTON — By late Tuesday and Tuesday night, another weather system moving in will increase onshore breezes (mainly in the 15-25 mph range), with rain also increasing late.
Wednesday morning will likely be pretty soggy around the area, and this will also be the time snow levels in the mountains will be falling to near 4,000 feet.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for locations through both Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes for accumulating snow down to pass level, and spots like Stevens Pass could get four to seven inches of snow by late Wednesday.
I also suspect we’ll see at least some accumulating snow at Snoqualmie Pass, especially Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Temperatures there will be a little more marginal, though, so snow could mix with rain at times or turn slushy on the roadway. That may also give road crews a better chance of keeping I-90 in decent shape compared with some of the higher passes.
Still, traveling through the Cascades could get dicey at times Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Even where the main roadway is mostly wet or slushy, conditions can change pretty quickly with elevation, and heavier bursts of snow could make for temporarily tougher travel.
Any mountain pass traveler Tuesday night through Wednesday should expect wintry driving conditions and check pass conditions before and during travel.
The forecast is trending a little drier by the weekend, though there could be lingering snow showers in the Cascades Thursday into Friday too. Check before you go!
