The Well Road Fire, which has burned approximately 2,000 acres across Whitman County, nears containment Thursday, while evacuation orders still restrict some residents from their homes in the area.
As of Wednesday, the fire was 78% contained. The cause is not yet known, but the fire information center said the fire’s growth has slowed significantly.
