WATCH: SPOG releases additional video of Sunday night riot in Seattle

SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Officers Guild, the union that represents the Seattle Police Department, released more surveillance video on Tuesday of a riot that took place Sunday night outside their Seattle office.

What started out as a peaceful “anti-SPOG” rally ended in a riot with 18 people arrested and multiple officers injured.

SPOG officials said two of the injured officers were treated at Harborview Medical Center for injuries sustained from projectile pyrotechnic devices and burning shrapnel from the devices. SPOG also released pictures of some of the injuries officers sustained (see below).

According to SPOG, about 100 people gathered at the King Street Station Plaza between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Officials said many of them were carrying shields that read “ACAB” an acronym for “All Cops Are Bastards.”

The crowd arrived outside the SPOG building around 10 p.m. and officials said several vehicles helped block the intersections as they marched.

According to SPOG, the crowd was given and ordered to disperse after they obstructed officers’ views with their high beams, poked them with umbrellas and tried to blind them with strobe lights. SPOG officials also said one person tried to shatter a patrol car window to deposit a lit mortar shell inside, but he was unsuccessful.

Officials said the crowd continued to throw explosives, bottles and rocks at officers before breaking into smaller groups and dispersing in the International District.

One of the injured officers who went to Harborview suffered an abrasion and bruising to his face when a suspect “bicycle kicked” him repeatedly while another officer suffered abrasions to his knees, elbows and knuckles and was punched while trying to arrest a suspect, officials said.

A SPOG spokesperson said other officers suffered minor burns to their legs and arms and numerous officers reported being sprayed with bear spray or some other chemical irritant.

SPOG President Mike Solan released the following statement in response to the riot:

“I am exceedingly proud of our incredible officers who continue to demonstrate their bravery and professionalism every day. These agitators and instigators are no longer even trying to hide behind the pretense of a peaceful protest – they have made their intentions clear: they are criminals who are here to wreak havoc, destroy property and attack officers, and they are emboldened by our city council. I hope the reasonable citizens of Seattle will speak up and help us stop this violent faction who simply want to sow chaos, and stand up for the officers who willingly put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect this city.”
