WATCH: Black bear, nursing elk among animals seen on I-90 wildlife crossings

Near SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — Video from the Washington State Department of Transportation shows the amount of activity on the Interstate 90 wildlife crossings this summer.

WSDOT tweeted the video last week, which showed an elk calf nursing, a black bear running and a herd of 55 elk.

The I-90 wildlife overpass is about 9 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass, between mileposts 61 and 62.

The overcrossing helps keep wildlife, especially elk and deer, from colliding with cars while allowing them to safely cross the highway.

There are also several natural underpasses where animals cross I-90.

Fences along the highway corral the wildlife to crossing areas.

WSDOT said in a tweet that it planned to provide I-90 wildlife statistics soon.
