UW men’s soccer team advances to first College Cup in program history

The No. 2 ranked Washington Huskies men’s soccer team defeated the No. 10 ranked Saint Louis Billikens 2-0 on Saturday in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament, advancing to the NCAA Men’s College Cup for the first time in program history.

Gio Miglietti scored the Huskies’ first goal in the match’s 17th minute, and followed that up with a second goal in the 27th minute.

The Huskies entered Saturday’s match coming off a 3-2 overtime victory against the No. 15 ranked Indiana Hoosiers last Saturday in the third round of the NCAA tournament.

This was the third consecutive appearance in the Elite Eight for the Huskies. The team lost 2-1 to Georgetown in 2019, and fell to Pittsburgh in 2020 by a score of 3-0.

The Huskies will play No. 3 ranked Georgetown in the College Cup on Friday, December 10, with the winner of that match advancing to the NCAA championship match on December 12.
