TUKWILA, Wash. — A Tukwila police officer and mall security team rescued a man hanging from an upper-level parking garage wall in the Southcenter District Wednesday.
Detective Mosley of the Tukwila Police Department (TPD) held the man by one arm for nearly a minute until security guards arrived to help pull him over the ledge to safety.
TPD says they were initially called to the area following a report of a shirtless man damaging property. The man had fled before police arrived, prompting Detective Mosley to search a nearby parking structure where he located the man suspended over the ledge.
According to TPD, the man was experiencing a mental health crisis and was in the process of releasing his grip from the ledge. Detective Mosley ran forward and caught one of the man’s arms before he fell, holding him suspended for nearly a minute.
Security officers from Westfield Southcenter arrived at the garage upper level to assist Mosley. Together, the officer and the security personnel pulled the man back over the wall.
The man was transported to a hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.
