Toddler in critical condition after being shot in head in Tukwila

TUKWILA, Wash. — Investigators are trying to determine what led up to a toddler being shot in the head in Tukwila on Friday morning.

Police said that around 9:30 a.m., a series of 911 calls were received from a woman in the Allentown neighborhood who was heard screaming on the phone.

Tukwila officers arrived at Puget Sound Fire Station 53, at 4202 South 115th Street. The child had been taken to the fire station by a family member, according to Tukwila police.

According to police, the toddler had been shot in the head. The family member remained on scene as firefighters began lifesaving measures before rushing the child to the hospital in critical condition.

The circumstances of the shooting are not yet known, but video from a home a few blocks away from the fire station showed a car in the driveway with a blanket covering its rear passenger-side window. Numerous officers were outside the home and crime scene tape cordoned off the area.

Police have not said if the toddler was at the home when they were shot or who the child’s parents are.

Neighbor Aaliyah Abdullah said she lives two houses away from the home where the officers are investigating. She said as a mother herself, she is heartbroken.

“The 3-year-old, it hit close to home because I have a 2-year-old myself. (I’m) just praying that the 3-year-old is OK because we don’t know the details,” she said.

King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives will investigate the case.
