Thunder star rookie Chet Holmgren suffers foot injury during Pro-Am league game in Seattle

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren, former Gonzaga star and the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft, suffered ligament damage to his right foot, according to the team’s spokesperson.

It happened during the CrawsOver Pro-Am league game that was held over the weekend at the Royal Brougham Pavillion at Seattle Pacific University.

During the game, Holmgren was seen limping off the court after getting tangled up with LeBron James on a fast break.

That injury could significantly push back Holmgren’s NBA debut.

However, he is seeking a second opinion.

The much-hyped CrawsOver game was canceled midway through after the court became too slippery to play on.

However, the injury occurred early in the game and did not appear to be related to the court issue. It does highlight the risks players take while competing in summer basketball leagues.

In a tweet on Sunday evening, Crawford said he believes the humidity in the gym was caused after someone pulled a fire alarm and organizers were instructed to keep the doors to the gym closed, which they hadn’t done for previous Pro-Am league events at the venue.

Fans who were able to get into the event at SPU said they still had an amazing time seeing some of basketball’s biggest stars including James, Jayson Tatum, Dejounte Murray and Jamal Crawford, who organized the event.
