KEY PENINSULA, Wash. — Pierce County detectives say they’re investigating their second case in just over a month of teenagers trashing a house that was up for sale.
The latest case is on the Key Peninsula.
Body camera video shows deputies walking into a home on 191 Avenue Southwest on Wednesday after detaining two teenagers, who are now suspected of doing significant damage to the house.
The video shows appliances that appear to have been ripped from the wall as water gushes to the floor. A broken, tangled light fixture hangs from the ceiling.
“This is worse than I thought,” said one of the deputies. “Oh- this is hundreds of dollars of damage,” the other said.
Turns out, the damage was more than $100,000, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
KIRO 7 showed the video to Zach Johnson, who lives next to the house, which is vacant and in the process of being sold. He spoke about the night the vandalism took place.
“I saw flashlights, in the backyard, and then I saw what I thought was a truck or something, so I thought- awe someone’s just moving something in.”
When he found out two teenagers are accused of doing significant damaged at the home, he shook his head. “That’s just peachy. Not the greatest,” he said.
Just last month, Pierce County deputies responded to a home in Graham after witnesses reported a raucous house party. Michael Legue was selling the home, after moving his family to Oklahoma. He showed KIRO 7 the damage he said the partiers left, including holes in walls, windows, and graffiti sprayed on nearly every surface.
“Like, what? Ugh. It’s crazy,” Legue said. “It’s absolutely crazy. Why?” Legue asked.
Deputies questioned 23 teens who were at the party and released them to their guardians. It was unclear at the time who had organized the gathering.
In the Graham case, Pierce County prosecutors say they’re now considering charges against at least one suspect, but more people could face charges as the investigation continues.
In the Key Peninsula case, the two 15-year-old suspects were booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of first-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief. Both are felonies.
