TACOMA, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation has a Halloween treat for commuters in Pierce County.
All lanes are now open across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor.
“A host of prep work and fair weather helped open lanes more than a week ahead of schedule. Many thanks to everyone who changed plans to keep backups low,” WSDOT shared Friday.

The westbound span across the water is 76 years old, and it is in desperate need of repairs. Regular SR 16 drivers have been caught up in emergency repairs for years.
WSDOT recently issued closures to replace a partial joint and finished early.
The worst spots are the four massive expansion joints on either end of the bridge, right where the towers are located. Eight major emergency repairs have been needed at the joints since 2024.
