Tacoma gas leak causes evacuations

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma firefighters evacuated people near a natural gas leak Monday morning.

The Tacoma Fire Department first tweeted about the incident at 10:41 a.m.

The ruptured pipe is near South 19th Street and Fawcett Avenue.

Firefighters monitored the situation while the gas provider worked to shut down flow to the pipe.

The leak was stopped and hazmat crews determined that people who evacuated nearby buildings could safely return to them.
