SEATTLE — We are hearing the 911 calls after the deadly shooting at the Bite of Seattle, including a call from a man who was shot in the back and shared his story with KIRO7.
The calls started coming in as people fled the Seattle Center on July 26th. A shooting that Seattle Police believe may have been gang-related left three people dead, including a possible suspect.
Five other people were wounded. Among them was Johnathan Morales Jimenez, who called for help.
“You been shot with a gun?” asks the 911 operator.
“I’ve been shot with a firearm,” Jimenez answers.
The operator continues, “Ok, do you know where the person is who did this?”
“I don’t know who did it (gasp). I took cover,” he replies.
“Caller, can you hear me?” the operator asks.
I can, yes. I’m losing blood. Ugh,” he groans.
“Did you see who did this?” the operator questions.
Jimenez, who told KIRO7 he’d been shot in the back, told the operator, “I did not see who did this. I was-” He can be heard gasping into the phone.
Unable to run, Jimenez waited for help and stayed on the line with the operator, who reassured him, “OK, it’s OK. Just breathe with me. I’m going to stay right with you. You said you’re by the water fountain, is that correct?”
“Yes,” he answered. “OK, OK. We’re getting some assistance out there right now,” the operator says. Shortly afterward, Jimenez confirms, “I’m here with an officer right now.”
Jimenez says officers applied pressure to the wound on his back and he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.
Days later, KIRO 7’s Heather Bosch spoke with Jimenez at his home. His backside was bruised and bandaged. The bullet was still lodged in his pelvis. He says doctors told him it was too dangerous to remove the bullet, but that they expected him to recover.
We checked back in with the young man after the 911 calls were released. Jimenez says he’s doing better but is still in pain. He says it gave him “chills” to listen to his 911 call.
The investigation into the shooting continues. Officers arrested a 15-year-old at the scene and recovered three guns. They say at least one suspect may still be on the loose.
