SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — Students’ medications are missing or diluted at multiple schools across the Sedro-Woolley School District, according to a district statement.
The district said it discovered the missing and tampered-with medications during a routine audit. The district referred the investigation to the city police department.
“Families trust us to keep their children’s medications safe, and we understand how deeply concerning this situation is,” Superintendent Brett Greenwood said. “Our first priority is supporting affected students and families, and we are committed to understanding what happened and strengthening our safeguards.”
The district said parents with concerns about their child’s medication should contact their child’s school principal. Because the investigation deals with confidential medication information about students, the district said it will not release more information about the investigation.
“We recognize the seriousness of the trust families place in us,” Greenwood said. “We are deeply sorry for the concern and uncertainty this situation has created. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and take steps to reduce the risk of something like this happening again.”
The district said it has personally contacted families whose students’ medications were identified as affected. As a precaution, the district is also not administering medication from the affected supplies and will be working with families to arrange replacement medications as needed.
The district said in its statement that it will cover the costs of replacing affected medications.
