State officials establishing rules for working outdoors during wildfire smoke

Washington state officials are looking to establish rules for working outdoors when there’s wildfire smoke.

The Department of Labor and Industries put emergency rules in place for the last two years. Now the agency wants to make them permanent.

The rules would require employers to create wildfire smoke plans, monitor air conditions, and put safety protocols in place based on air pollution levels.

Hearings on the proposal are scheduled for July.
