1 dead, 1 injured in Belltown apartment stabbing; suspect arrested

SEATTLE — A suspect in a fatal stabbing was arrested after she barricaded herself inside an apartment in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Police said two people were stabbed around 11:30 a.m. inside an apartment building in the 2500 block of 4th Avenue, located about a half mile southeast of the Space Needle.

On Wednesday night, police said one of the victims, a 48-year-old man, died from his injuries. The other victim, a 43-year-old woman, remains at Harborview Medical Center.

According to police the suspect, a 46-year-old woman, who up until recently lived in the building, returned and stabbed the two people.

Investigators tracked the woman to her former apartment, where she barricaded herself inside.

Negotiators with the Seattle Police Department tried to contact her but she refused to exit. Before 5:30 p.m., the woman was taken into custody.

Investigators said she was booked into the King County Jail.
