SEATTLE, Wash. — The 0.03″ of rain since midnight at Sea-Tac Airport pushed the monthly rain total for Seattle (officially) to 0.33″, knocking us to second place for driest October on record.
But we’ll likely keep moving down that list before the month is out as more wet weather is on the way.
For Monday night and Tuesday morning, a departing trough of low pressure means showers continue to taper, though there still could be an isolated lowland shower into early tomorrow. There’s also a chance for a little patchy fog too. Morning lows will be in the 40s.
By late Tuesday and Tuesday night, another weather system moving in will increase onshore breezes (mainly in the 15-25 mph range) and increasing rain late.
Wednesday morning will likely be pretty soggy around the area, and this will also be the time snow levels in the mountains will be falling to near 4,000 feet.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for locations from the passes east for accumulating snow above 4,000 feet, and spots like Stevens Pass could get four to seven inches of snow by late Wednesday. But I also suspect we’ll have some accumulating snow at Snoqualmie Pass, too, though it might melt a bit or mix with rain at times.
Any mountain pass traveler on Tuesday night through Wednesday should expect wintery weather driving conditions and keep up with pass conditions before and during travel.
While showers will taper in the lowlands later Wednesday, we could have an isolated thunderstorm — primarily near the coast and also in the mountains. It’ll be chilly Wednesday with highs in Seattle only in the low 50s.
Some rain showers will stay in the forecast for Thursday, and beyond that is where confidence in the forecast starts to wane.
However, the trend is toward a drier forecast by the weekend, including Halloween. However, it is too far out to be certain of a rain-free trick-or-treat!
We’ll refine the forecast as we get closer. If we do turn drier by the weekend, we could be looking at some frost on that pumpkin during the night and morning hours this weekend.
