Harris was struck and killed Jun. 13 on I-5 when she stopped to help other drivers who got into an accident.

She was off-duty when it happened.

“For an officer like that – like I said, that’s who she was. It didn’t matter whether she was on duty and in uniform or off duty and on her way home. Her first thought was to stop and help people who looked like they needed help,” said SPD Sgt. Randy Huserik.

She was a five-year veteran of the department.

She is survived by her fiancé and his two children.

“As we prepare to remember Lexi’s life, service and sacrifice, I’m reminded of these words: ‘Law enforcement officers are never ‘off duty.’ They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety at any time and place that the peace is threatened,’” SPD Chief Adrian Diaz wrote.
