18-year-old charged in hit-and-run that killed UW student on Montlake bridge

Scene of fatal Montlake hit-and-run

SEATTLE — An 18-year-old driver was charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a 23-year-old University of Washington student who was hit on the Montlake Bridge on New Year’s Day, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said.

Kyle Dickinson also was charged with felony hit-and-run and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Prosecutors say Dickinson was driving his parents’ car around 1 a.m. when he struck Jared West in the 2900 block of Montlake Boulevard East. West had just left a nearby party and was walking on the bridge.

Police said after Dickinson hit West, he abandoned his car and ran away. West was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was found a short distance away. Dickinson was later arrested.
