SEATTLE — A Seattle homeowner shot one of three suspects who believe police may have been trying to burglarize his home, SPD said.

Around 7:30 a.m., a husband and wife woke up to find three people in the yard of their home in the 2100 block of Beacon Avenue South.

The couple’s home had been burglarized several days earlier.

The woman called 911 and the man got a gun and went and spoke to the two men and a woman in his yard, a blotter post said.

The man told police that he fired his weapon after one of the suspects came toward him carrying a handsaw.

When police arrived, they found a 53-year-old female suspect with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

A 59-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

A possible third suspect fled the scene by foot. Several hours later, a man with a gunshot wound showed up at a Ballard hospital. Police are investigating a possible connection.

SPD said the investigation is ongoing and details should be considered preliminary.
