SPD Chief Best calls for home protests to stop

SEATTLE — Residents of a Snohomish County neighborhood blocked a road Saturday night to keep protestors away from the home of Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best.

In a letter to the Seattle City Council Best wrote:

“These direct actions against elected officials, and especially civil servants like myself, are out of line with and go against every democratic principle that guides our nation.”

One neighbor posted a picture of the gun, calling the protestors Antifa.

And in video apparently shot by protestors you can hear talk about a gun.

Chief Best asked the City Council, “”Before this devolves into the new way of doing business by mob rule here in Seattle, and across the nation, elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics.”

Council Member Tammy Morales responded, “I have to say that I take exception to the response by our police chief, who celebrated that her neighbors met these young people with guns when they were exercising their First Amendment rights to peacefully protest on a city street.”

The protestors were identified online as the Seattle Everyday March, the group that met with Council Member Strauss last week.

“Instead of waiting for them to come to my home,. I went and met them in the park. We had a good discussion and they asked me, and they asked me tough questions on camera. What I saw is the next generation learning to lead.”

But a man was injured last week when he confronted protestors at another neighborhood protest. He had to be treated at Harborview Medical Center.

“All of us must ensure that this righteous cause is not lost in the confusion of so many protestors now engaging in violence and intimidation, which many are not speaking against,” Chief Best wrote to the council.

“While this council has condemned some of the language and the tactics that have been used early on,” Morales said. “We need to make sure that these young people are not met by armed neighbors when they are exercising their First Amendment rights.”
