SEATTLE — Second-year cornerback Shaquill Griffin, and his rookie twin brother Shaquem Griffin will throw out the first pitch before Friday's Mariners game against the Kansas City Royals.
Shauqem, a fifth round pick in the 2018 draft, will throw out the pitch and Shaquill will catch it, according to a news release from the team.
Sports fans across the world fell in love with Shaquem when the Seahawks drafted him in the Spring. Shaquem, who had his left hand amputated at age four, was the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the year in 2016 and the MVP of UCF's Peach Bowl victory against Auburn last season when the Knights went 13-0.
Shaquill played in 15 games for the Seahawks last season, and is expected to start in place of Richard Sherman next year.
The Mariners (51-31) enter Friday's game against the Royals (25-55) trailing the Houston Astros by 3.5 games for first place in the AL West.
Marco Gonzalez (7-5) will take the mound for the Mariners against Ian Kennedy (1-7) of the Royals.
