BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — The emergency department at MultiCare Bonney Lake is currently shut down and is not accepting any patients.

Patients requiring emergency care should seek services at the nearest available emergency department or call 911 in the event of a medical emergency.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office told KIRO 7 News that a suicidal man with a gun barricaded himself inside the emergency room. Multiple staff and patients were evacuated from the building.

The man is now in custody, and according to Bonney Lake police, there is no threat to the community outside of the immediate area.

MultiCare says all staff and patients are safe, and there are no injuries.

“The safety and well-being of our patients, staff, and community remain our highest priorities. We are closely coordinating with law enforcement and will share additional information when available,” MultiCare shared.

MultiCare says the emergency department will reopen at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
