SEATTLE — Seattle’s original night market returns Saturday for a one-day event.
The Chinatown-International District Night Market will feature more than 100 vendors offering street food deals, as well as arts and crafts and live cultural performances.
The market is celebrating its 19th year after temporarily being canceled in 2023 due to rising costs. A sponsorship from Amazon made the event’s return possible through this year.
In addition to outdoor booths, dozens of brick-and-mortar storefronts in the neighborhood are participating through a self-guided food walk designed to highlight local businesses.
Local business owners are preparing for the influx of visitors.
Aunyanuch Yamamoto is a co-owner of E-Jae Pak Mor, a Thai street food shop participating in the market.
“It’s a good chance for people to know us,” Yamamoto said. “Like, ‘Oh we are here. We have the food here. Come to try our food.’”
Yamamoto emphasized that street food offers a lasting connection with patrons who return to the neighborhood after the event.
“Everything has story behind the dish,” Yamamoto said. “It brings more customers to know we are here.”
Community leaders view the event as an essential entry point for the wider public to experience the district.
Tuyen Than serves as executive director of the Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area.
“Night market is one of the ways that I was introduced to the neighborhood,” Than said. “It’s one of best ways to discover the CID and also come back. Because while the night market is big and fun and it is full of life, the neighborhood is full life every day.”
The CID Night Market takes place tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the area surrounding Hing Hay Park.
