SEATTLE — The Seattle Education Association will vote this week on a tentative contract with Seattle Public Schools (SPS).
SPS and the teacher’s union reached a tentative deal right before the deadline last week.
The last-minute announcement prevented a strike and allowed students to return to class on September 2.
KIRO 7 does not know the specific details of the contract, but we do know it involves a higher pay raise for teachers than what the district was initially offering.
Seattle School Superintendent Ben Shuldiner told KIRO 7 that the contract also includes a plan to reexamine how SPS provides special education.
The teacher’s union will vote to ratify the contract on Friday at 5 p.m. inside of McCall Hall. The school board will also need to vote on the contract.
The last teachers’ strike in the district was in 2022. The five-day walk-out had families scrambling to find last-minute childcare. And families are once again considering their options.
