SEATTLE — More than 150 parents, guardians and community members showed up to Seattle Public Schools’ (SPS) Superintendent Community Engagement Meeting at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School on Tuesday night.
Academic rigor, school design and safety and security were the main topics discussed among nearly 150 parents, guardians and community members who showed up.
“Having such great active listening is really gratifying as a parent,” said Mollie Grow.
As a mother of two high school students in Seattle Public Schools, Grow says safety is a big concern.
“I think safety and security is on the minds of all parents and the community, and I think being able to have transparent conversations is important to us as well,” said Grow.
Superintendent Ben Shuldiner and SPS staff interacted with families throughout the meeting
“I think that I feel much more accepted than in the past few years with the way the district is communicating with people,” said David Lusby.
Lusby says the topic of academic rigor was a big draw for him.
“I want to see SPS come up with clear next steps on how to make sure kids are learning, make sure they’re provided the environment to learn, and the district continues to communicate what their steps are and what the results of those are,” said Lusby.
