Seattle Humane gets 6 tons of donations from KIRO 7 viewers

More than 12 tons of cat food was donated to Seattle Humane in August, including at least 6 tons from KIRO 7 viewers.

Earlier this month, there was a call to help 300 cats after the Seattle Humane pet food bank was out of food.

More than 12 tons of food was donated, and Seattle Humane staff said at least 6 tons of that came from KIRO 7 viewers.

In the first 24 hours, $4,000 was donated to purchase food. One donation was an entire pallet of food, and dozens of orders streamed in through Amazon.

Seattle Humane staff said the cats waiting for adoption should have enough food for the remainder of the year.

“The response has been amazing!” Seattle Humane’s Marketing Communications Manager Jenna Pringle said earlier this month.

The story was also trending on the Seattle Reddit thread, where dozens of others also said they’d donated cat food.

The Seattle Humane Pet Food Bank provides free pet food and supplies to low-income seniors and community members living with cancer or HIV/AIDS so they can keep their pets when they need them most.

The program currently serves more than 300 families in King County, staff said.

Through August 2, Seattle Humane adopted 3,515 cats and dogs in 2016.
