Seahawk’s Corgi Cup winner goes viral for taunting her competition

SEATTLE — You’ve probably seen the video by now: Banana the corgi looking back at the dogs she’s leaving in the dust at Sunday’s Seahawks Corgi Cup!

Banana is now titled a back-to-back champ at Lumen Field. She won the 2025 Seahawks Corgi Cup as well.

It’s the look-back seen ‘round the world; Banana’s owner, Anne Pham, tells us she had no idea just how much of a star her furry friend suddenly became.

“I was getting texts like, oh, Banana’s trending on Twitter and I thought that was a joke,” Pham said. “I opened TikTok, and there was like a fan edit of Banana. I was like, this was so ridiculous!”

The internet quickly compared the little five-year-old corgi’s lookback moment to Usain Bolt looking back at his competitors while in the lead in his race at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

“I didn’t even think anything of the lookback. I didn’t know anything about the Usain Bolt meme. I didn’t realize this was a taunting kind of thing, and so when people just were blowing up the comments, like it was just so funny,” Pham said.

She tells us Banana started racing in 2023, and since then she has competed in at least 15 races at Lumen Field, Emerald Downs, University of Washington, and more.

“It’s like as soon as we walk out of the tunnel and she steps foot on the field, it’s something that comes over her, and she starts pulling like crazy; she starts barking, like she just wants to go,” Pham said.

Tram tells us it’s funny that Banana loves the notoriously loud Lumen Field, because she really is nervous around a lot of things.

“It’s really funny because she’s honestly kind of an anxious dog. She’s afraid of hardwood floors. She’s afraid of kitchens. She does not like public transportation, like a car or a bus; she is not a fan. But at the end of the day, she’s just a sweet, cuddly corgi,” Pham said.

Tram said Banana may never know how much of a pro she really is; this has just been a fun hobby for them both.

“I don’t think I’ve ever thought of taking it seriously and making a job out of it, but if Nike wants to reach out, I won’t say no!” Pham said.

She and Banana recently moved to New York City, which brings on a whole new field of athletes for Banana to leave in her dust.

“I’m excited to see if there’s any like East Coast racing just to meet more East Coast corgis. Then maybe if I want to get on a flight again, there’s Corgi Nationals in LA,” Pham said.
