SAMMAMISH, Wash. — A pair of package thieves who hit at least 16 homes in the days before Christmas were arrested by Sammamish police detectives.
Investigators say the duo was caught on multiple home security cameras, but it was the video of the license plate on their BMW that helped police track them down.
When police arrested the suspects in Everett on February 7, they say they also recovered the clothing the pair is seen wearing during the thefts.
According to investigators the thieves stole packages containing toys for children for Christmas, clothing, electronics and other items totaling more than $5,000.
“Heartless,” said Sgt. Ryan Abbott with the King County Sheriff’s Office, ”They’re stealing kids’ Christmas presents.”
Detectives say the surveillance video provided by residents was key in piecing together their crime spree.
Both suspects are under investigation for theft. Sammamish detectives sent the case to the King County Prosecutor’s Office to make a charging decision. According to investigators the pair is also connected to a series of package thefts in Mount Vernon.
