Road temperatures top 121 degrees in Western Washington

SEATTLE — With temperatures nearing 110 Monday in some areas of Western Washington, the Washington State Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be aware of hot roads and the increased possibility of cars breaking down in the heat.

While it may be 110 degrees in the air, surface areas like roads can reach 120 degrees and car dashboards will be even hotter.

The heat may cause some roads to buckle due to heat expansion, accelerating road deterioration.

WSDOT suggests that drivers bring extra water and consider what they will need if their car break down.
