While this week will be pretty tranquil in Western Washington, with morning clouds melting away to sunshine each day, we’re already watching the longer-range forecast with interest, as there could be some important changes in the weather pattern ahead of the coming weekend.
Onshore wind flow will keep Western Washington seasonably mild and bring some fresh air into the lowlands (though wildfire smoke will still be an issue from time to time), with highs mainly in the 70s each day this week.
A trough of low pressure could swing inland by late Friday and Saturday across the Northwest. These areas of disturbed weather bring moisture, more clouds, and “lift” for thunderstorms.
The most favored areas for thunderstorm activity as early as Friday afternoon and evening could be in our mountains and down south in Oregon, though the threat could expand by Saturday to the whole region.
While no severe weather would be expected, thunderstorms could produce significant amounts of lightning, which is exactly what we don’t need in our mountains or in any part of the parched Washington landscape, for that matter.
We’ll be watching as the Pinpoint Forecast evolves through the week and monitoring whether this thunderstorm-sparking trough of low pressure will actually move across our region Friday into Saturday. As always, you can track the forecast details on the KIRO 7 Pinpoint Weather App.
Meanwhile, with small brush fires continually popping up, take care not to do anything that could spark a fire!
