Renton missing person now homicide investigation

An unidentified body that was found in Olympia in September has been identified as a missing Renton man who disappeared in August, according to Renton police.

On Sept. 24, an unidentified body was found in wooded area near the 2200 block of Reservation Road Southeast in Olympia.

The body had been deceased for some time, and no identification had been found on or near the body.

Renton detectives were recently advised by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office that the remains were identified as Daniel J. Shur of Renton.

Shur had been reported missing on Aug. 26.

There was no immediate signs of foul play at Shur’s home, but people close to him had concerns he may have left his home under duress.

The county coroner determined Shur suffered multiple stab wounds and died as a result of homicidal violence. His case has now been amended to a homicide investigation.

Shur was known to buy and sell vehicles and had close relationships with regional car clubs.

Renton detectives are looking to speak to anyone who has participated in a vehicle transaction with Shur over the last year, or anyone that may have been traveling near the 2200 Block of Reservation Road Southeast in Olympia between Aug. 22 and Sept. 24 and noticed anything unusual or suspicious.
