Redmond police investigate possible explosive device, determine it was harmless

REDMOND, Wash. — After investigating reports of a possible explosive Monday afternoon, Redmond police determined the device was in fact harmless.

Officials tweeted around 2 p.m. that police were investigating in the area around 178th Place NE and Union Hill Road. 178th Place NE was closed in both directions.

A followup tweet said that a bomb squad from the Bellevue Police Department also responded and the subject involved was taken into police custody.

Officials later said that after a bomb squad investigated the device, they found it to be harmless. They also said the suspect in custody was speaking to a mental health professional.
