Puyallup teacher who wrote ‘racial profanity’ on whiteboard is now on administrative leave

PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Puyallup teacher who apologized in March for writing the n-word on a classroom whiteboard is now on administrative leave for a second incident.

Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Puyallup School District confirmed there is an investigation. They sent KIRO 7 a statement that reads:

“A second incident has occurred, unrelated to the first, which has resulted in the employee being put on administrative leave.

Details are protected by law, but what I can tell you is that the teacher remains on leave while the investigation is pending.”

KIRO 7 has learned of a second incident involving the same teacher just days later.

We obtained a copy of a complaint that occurred on March 16.

The complaint reads: “A student opened the door and the teacher in a harsh tone told the student she was teaching and to leave.”

“The teacher was then reported to have said to the class “[They’re special ed]” and the complaint says students released an audible gasp.”

Parents with children attending Glacier View Jr High are now demanding action and transparency from Puyallup Schools.

“I don’t like cancel culture, but if the teacher is having two incidents of saying derogatory comments, there’s an issue,” said parent, Nick Junka. “If I were to say something like that, I would be fired from my job.”

Weeks ago, the seventh-grade teacher apologized to Glacier View families, saying they never meant to offend anyone. Some parents felt that fell short.

Middle School mom, Ranjit Kaur questions, “Why did they not take action when the first incident happened?”
