PUYALLUP, Wash. — Calling all artists! Puyallup is looking for several people to create original artwork for reproduction and installation on traffic signal cabinets throughout the city.
The city wants to celebrate local creativity, reduce graffiti, and enhance the visual character of public spaces throughout the community.
Selected artwork will be professionally reproduced as vinyl wraps and installed on signal cabinets at designated locations.
Artist requirements
To participate, artists must:
- Live in the Puyallup School District boundaries at the time of application
- Not be a current member of the Puyallup Arts & Culture Commission.
- Not be an employee of the City of Puyallup
Selected artists will receive a stipend of $500 per approved design.
Artists will retain ownership of their original artwork while granting the City of Puyallup a non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce, display, install, and use the artwork for the Signal Cabinet Wrap Program and related promotional purposes.
Cabinet locations
Signal cabinet wraps will be installed at the following places:
- 39th Ave & 5th St SE
- 39th Ave & 25th
- W. Pioneer & 12th
- River Road & 4th
Artwork themes & requirements
Artists may submit designs inspired by one or more of the following themes:
- Washington State Fair
- Mount Rainier
- Daffodils
- Historic Downtown / Puyallup Heritage
- Bee City and Tree City designations
- Puyallup Tribe
Artwork must be the original work of the submitting artist. It may not contain profanity, political endorsements, commercial advertising, discriminatory content, copyrighted material owned by others, or imagery that may reasonably be considered offensive or inappropriate for a public setting
“AI-generated artwork may be considered only when the applicant can demonstrate substantial creative authorship and ownership rights,” the city stated.
All types of artistic styles and media are welcome, including:
- Acrylic painting
- Pastels
- Watercolor
- Oil painting
- Photography
- Digital artwork
- Mixed media
Selection process
Submitted design proposals will be reviewed by the Puyallup Arts & Culture Commission. The Commission may suggest revisions to submitted artwork prior to final selection.
The Commission anticipates selecting up to four designs for production and installation in 2026. The number of selected designs may vary based on available funding and project needs.
Designs not selected for the 2026 program may remain eligible for consideration in future installations.
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
- Artistic quality and creativity
- Relevance to one or more preferred themes
- Suitability for reproduction as a signal cabinet wrap
- Visual impact on a public setting
- Diversity of artistic styles and perspectives

Applicants must submit:
- Applicant name
- Mailing address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Signed declaration confirming residency within the Puyallup School District
- Up to three proposed designs submitted as high-resolution JPEG files
Proposed designs must be submitted as high-resolution JPEG files.
Selected artists may be required to provide final artwork in additional formats suitable for large-scale printing.
Final artwork should be capable of reproduction at a minimum of 300 dpi.
Signal cabinet dimensions and templates will be provided for selected artists.
Deadline
All application materials must be received no later than the end of the day on Friday, October 23rd, 2026.
