Police: Teen arrested, charged in connection with armed robbery, assault

TACOMA, Wash. — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery and assault, Tacoma police said Wednesday.

Police said on Feb. 18 at 4:40 p.m. 911 received a call for reports of a robbery in the 3300 block of South Cushman, where one person had been shot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his stomach and a 39-year-old woman who had not been hurt.

Police performed lifesaving measures on the man and he was taken to the hospital.

The victims told police they had arranged to meet with a person through a social media app to buy a gaming console. When they met the seller, who was later identified as the 17-year-old suspect, he pointed a gun and demanded cash, according to a release from police.

The victim then tried to run but the suspect chased him down, shot him in the stomach, and took his wallet, which contained cash and the victim’s identification.

Police said through their investigations they were able to identify the suspect and arrested him on March 4 without incident.

The 17-year-old has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery, police said.
