Police: Tacoma hotel worker shoots man who went after employees with knife

TACOMA, Wash. — A man is in the hospital after he was shot by a Tacoma hotel employee.

Police were called to the Quality Inn & Suites at 8810 South Hosmer Street at 11:49 p.m. Tuesday. The area is currently experiencing high crime.

A 45-year-old man got into an argument with three people — two employees and a bystander — and went after them with a knife, the News Tribune reported.

One of the employees, a 32-year-old woman, shot the man once, according to Tacoma police.

“She had the right to protect herself at that time,” said Tacoma police spokesperson Wendy Haddow.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Haddow said someone called 911 to report that an employee had just shot a man.

Police had trespassed the man from the hotel before, and when employees asked him to leave Tuesday night, he refused, according to the News Tribune.

The man then attacked the three victims while armed with a knife, according to police.

Tacoma police said the man will be arrested for investigation of three counts of assault once he is released from the hospital.
