SEATTLE — Officials arrested two suspects who stole a catalytic converter and opened fire at the car owner before fleeing on I-5 on Wednesday, police said.

Police said the victim was standing near his car in the 1700 block of 6th Avenue South when he saw a black van drive up.

The victim confronted the woman who shouted to a second suspect, a 31-year-old man- to help her. The man appeared holding a gun.

The victim pepper sprayed and punched the man before running away. The man fired shots at the victim but didn’t hit him.

The suspects then drove away.

Officers found the suspects and tried to pull them over in the 3300 block of South McClellan Street, but the suspects didn’t stop.

The suspects continued to drive onto I-5 where Washington State Patrol troopers were able to stop them using spike strips.

The suspects were then arrested.

Police learned that the van the suspects were driving had previously been reported stolen and also recovered ammunition and methamphetamine from the van.
