Pinnacle Peak Trail and the surrounding area at Mount Rainier National Park are closed because of a new wildfire.
It’s called the Plummer Peak Fire, and it is burning west of the Grand Park 2 Fire.
According to the National Park Service (NPS), the ridge from Lane Peak to Foss Peak across the ridge and from Stevens Canyon Road to the southern park boundary are impacted by the closure. Stevens Canyon Road is not closed.
The closure of the Northern Loop Trail has been extended from Lake James to the Carbon Suspension Bridge. This includes Lake James and Yellowstone Cliffs backcountry camps.
Sunrise Road and White River Road to SR410 are also closed.
A fire ban for Mount Rainier National Park has been in effect since June 26 and will be until further notice, according to NPS. During fire bans, all campfires and the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbecue grills are prohibited. The goal is to prevent additional fires from starting.
