SEATTLE, Wash. — Millions of Americans who purchase cheap drugs from Canada could be facing price hikes later this month.

A Department of Homeland Security rule first announced in June limits international shipping companies’ ability to send items valued at over $800 to the U.S.

The new rule takes effect on October 22.

On Thursday, the Canadian International Pharmacy Association said it would no longer be able to send prescriptions into the country because of the rule’s limitations.

According to their website, the association represents 50 pharmacies in Canada.

The Campaign for Personal Prescription Importation said in a statement on their website that the new rule would restrict pharmacies outside the U.S. from shipping any medications into the country.

KIRO 7 reached out to the Association for comment on how they believe this new rule will affect business and American consumers but had not heard back when this article was published.
