BRINNON, Wash. — A person who was severely burned at the Seal Rock Campground was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday night.
According to Brinnon Fire, the man is in critical condition, but stable. His family has been notified and is traveling from Kansas.
His dog was rushed to a nearby veterinarian to be treated, too.
“We also have some very encouraging news about his do,” the fire department shared Tuesday. “Her name is Ziva, and she is doing very well this morning. She is eating, drinking, and receiving veterinary care in Poulsbo.”
According to Brinnon Fire, the man was preparing a meal using a propane camp stove inside his tent. Propane accumulated inside the tent, and when he tried to light the stove, the propane ignited, resulting in severe burn injuries.
“The concern shown for both this gentleman and Ziva has been remarkable,” the department said. “Please continue to keep him, Ziva, and their family in your thoughts.”
Brinnon Fire officials said Jefferson County’s 911 dispatch center, JeffCom 911, played a key role in helping coordinate care. Responders also worked with Center Valley Animal Rescue to determine the appropriate level of veterinary treatment.
