RENTON, Wash. — A pedestrian was killed in a crash Monday night in Renton, police said.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m., Renton police received multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian-vehicle collision at NE 12th Street and Sunset Blvd NE.

Witnesses told officers that the victim, a 52-year-old woman, was struck by a car while crossing the street after she got off a Metro bus. After the car hit the victim, the suspect quickly sped away from the scene.

The department originally tweeted that the pedestrian was injured but later said she died at the scene.

Nearby roads were closed that evening while police investigated.

After reviewing video and debris from the collision, investigators were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle as a small white Ford SUV or hatchback.

On Tuesday afternoon, two officers located a white Ford Focus hatchback in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Duvall Avenue NE. Upon closer examination, officers found that the Focus had damage consistent with the collision dynamics and was missing parts matching the debris found at the scene.

That car has since been impounded and its owner has been interviewed by police.

No one has been arrested yet, as police continue to examine and analyze evidence in connection to the collision.

Anyone who has direct information about the collision is asked to call Renton police at (425) 430-7529, referencing case number 21-12570.
