Suspect confesses to Kirkland motel robbery with accomplice hours after drive-by shooting

Kirkland police said they didn’t have to look far for a robbery suspect who was arrested in a Motel 6 room after reportedly robbing two people in another motel room at gunpoint with an accomplice Friday morning.

The second suspect was arrested at a nearby gas station, according to investigators, who said one of the two suspects also confessed to being involved in an earlier drive-by shooting targeting a Kirkland home around 2:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of NE 132nd PL.

A man was home at the time of the shooting that also damaged several cars but wasn’t hurt, police said.

As investigators were finishing collecting evidence at the shooting scene, Kirkland officers said they were called to a report of possible shots fired around 6 a.m. at the Motel 6 at 12010 120th PL NE.

"It's pretty crazy,” said motel guest Corey Woodworth. “I have a 13-year-old daughter and so we're right below and I initially thought it was just kids having a party."

Two men staying at the motel told police they were robbed at gunpoint by two suspects who busted a room window and forced their way in, hitting one victim in the head, who was later taken to the hospital.

Police said he’s expected to be OK.

The two suspects left but were later arrested nearby and both confessed to being involved in the motel robbery, according to police.

"There was 10 cop cars,” said Woodworth. “We saw one gentleman being taken away in cuffs.”

Kirkland police said the drive-by shooting and motel robbery were targeted and not random crimes.

Officers recovered a stolen vehicle used by the suspects and a backpack they said contained one of the suspect’s ID and a replica gun.

Both were booked into jail and now face several felony charges.

A representative for Motel 6 told KIRO 7 the motel is cooperating with the police investigation.
